My Sisters Shoes

No one can fill my sister's shoes
Some have tried but I refuse
No longer allow myself to be abused
Spit shined and misused
From bruised heel to manicured and polished toes
I have experienced a painful, story of woe
All because I chose
To walk in step, right foot after left
With those, who have often, over stepped
As we walked, they rejoiced as I wept
They stomped on my heart, with no regrets
I skipped, skipped-to-my-lou, and dip they always do
Then kick a sister in the gut, when theiy're through
With their steel toe boots, you thought loved you
Lord, what's a girl, with a shoe fetish to do?
Get rid of the no good, worthless shoes!
Because if they don't fit, don't force it
Unlace the relationship and divorce it
Invest in the best, that past ever road test
Kick em to the curb!
Stick close, to the most superb, friend you'll ever have
You won't need band-aides or shave
Who needs Jimmy Coos or should I say losers!
I've bought and PAID for, for designer flats and stilettos
That have stabbed me in the back and deceitfully metaled
But my sisters shinny boots, get the gold metal, of honor
And we bought hers, at the Wal-Mart, around the corner
I can't tell you, how much, I can depend on them
Shinny black boots, my sister always wears
I even bought her a brown pair!
Because no other shoes compare
Or have chosen to walk in the same direction
Will ever garner more love and affection
Than my sisters shoes

Because, I worship the ground she walks on,
Mommy Dearest

Sister Harley,

Who is the sister in this poem? Is a sister a Black woman, a Christian woman, or any woman who shows sisterhood? It appears that sister is someone that embraces who you really are with all the flaws, weakness, & insecurities.

It saddens me though that I've not found many Black women to where the Sisters Shoes due to self hate, self loathing, envy, and jealousy. What is your experience if you would be so kind to comment on it?

I wrote My Sisters Shoes for my eldest sister! I have not had the best experience with the past woman in my life. But my sister has always been there for me. Thou I still long for female companionship, you know a girl friend to call ,hang out with share life! But I have not let the short comings of others stop me from still loving the spirit of womanhood and sisterhood. A few bad apples have not spoiled my opinion of woman in general, we are fearfully and wonderfully made! Able to carry the weight of the world on our backs. But that can give a girl a few hang up! So it has made me, change how i approach my relationships. Allowing God to teach me how to create boundaries, so I will not get hurt in the process of another beloved trying to come into maturity. Three is a divine order and only God can instruct you in how to deal with the woman or men that come into your life. And not all, have been sent to you, by God, nor has He ever planned for you to have a relationship with them. We often invite grief and suffering into our lives, for what ever reason. The Bible say's, "There is a way that appears to right but leads to death." The death of are belief in woman and sisterhood! --Mommy Dearest

Oh yeah...she is Black, a Christian and has excepted me, with all my flaws and imperfections. Because she has a few of her own. But we confess them, continue to work on them and move on in love, regardless of them!

Your sister is a beautiful woman and that's a great picture of her! I do appreciate you and all that you add to BWC. Keep these blogs coming because they are so needed.

I really feel you on the issue of not all people who come into our lives are sent by God and that we sometimes invite grief and suffering.

Boundaries are vital to any healthy relationship, but I believe walls impede the process to building friendships; many of us need to shout a shout of victory so that the Jericho Walls will crumble and fall in order to allow God sent sisters to enter our lives.
