As with Christmas and many other celebrations they are all rooted in pagan traditions which aren't necessary bad. I am a Christian, but I don't think it's wrong to participate in some of the other cultural traditions like shopping for gifts and easter egg hunts which have nothing to do with the resurrection. It all depends on one's personal convictions and what you believe God is leading you to do according to his holy words. There is really no explicit instructions in the New Testment other than what Apostle Paul instructed, but each person has to be persuaded by his/her own heart and what the Holy Spirit is saying / instructing one to do.

I've had to scale back on Christmas this year also.I just don't have the money for decorations or gifts. I'm single with no children and my parents passed away many years ago so I don't buy Christmas presents. However I do send a few Christmas cards, (paper and eCards), make a few phone calls, and give the gifts of hugs, kisses, time, attention, prayer, faith and loyalty. Personally I do very much enjoy all the Christmas songs and carols. I have WQXR on now and they are playing nonstop Christmas music. Pretty cool. Christmas is what you make of it. Jesus probably never intended for all this hoopla but here it is worldwide and just because I've downsized the Holidays does not make it right for me to rain on everyone's parade. Happy Holidays!
