Is light better?

What an excellent article Yohi, but for celebrities their job demands them to make their appearances marketable for the big gigs/jobs so I don't much blame them. It's all a part of their craft in the industry that they work in, but for regular everyday folk like me we should know better. Generally there is nothing wrong with enhancing one's appearance, but there is a fine line when we all need to ask ourselves what are our true motives for some of these things like bleaching our skin.

Media does play a big part in the self destruction of many ethnic groups. I hear Indian women are going back home to get cosmetic surgeries done because it's a lot less expensive; henceforth, as the article alluded to more than just Black women are under pressure to look more "Eurocentric". I have a young cousin who is part Asian and African American who hates her nose that she inherited from her father (my cousin). I told her mom that she can always get her nose done when she's older if it bothers her that much.

Thanks for your comment Jen Fad. I agree that celebrities are under a lot of pressure. But what they do matters for many girls out there who take them as role models. The more they tell us they need straight nose or lighter skin or straight long hair, the more little black girls would aspire to look like them and reject what they are as persons. I wouldn't care what they do to themselves to change themselves, but the impact they have on the rest of us bothers me. You are right that enhancing one's appearance isn't a bad thing, but it shouldn't be done as the expense of changing who you are. Before we come to such decisions, we should as ourselves who said straight nose or lighter skin is better. Don't forget, if we don't love ourselves, nobody will love us. As for you young cousin, I think instead of planing for a future nose job, you and the adults around her should instill a sense of self confidence in her and let her know she is beautiful as she is.
