I'm pretty sure many people heard about this story. An 8 year old Liberian girl was gang raped by 4 boys -9, 10, 12, and 14- and her family blames her for the tragedy-
I am OUTRAGED by this story and it seems like people are just brushing it off-I just want to know how others feel about this story. I have A LOT to say but I'll just say it in response to comments to the blog..

Sister Jeannette,
I don't know where I've been because this is the first time that I'm hearing about this. My goodness my heart goes out to the young girl. What a sad thing. I also feel bad for the young boys, because one or more of them probably were forced to be child soldiers at some point in Liberia when President Charles Taylor was the leader. What an evil human being he was to his own people and it’s ironic that he’s been in the news on trial for crimes against humanity. Only God can really know the psychological effects Taylor caused his people during the wars and uprisings in Liberia. We here can’t even begin to understand it. I imagine that what the Liberians went through is probably similar to what our ancestors went through at the hand of the slave masters for which many African Americans are still suffering from… the after effects.

Of course, I'm just speculating but I don't think any of these children should be discarded, but helped. They are all refugees which fled from Liberia for some reason. I hope that we won’t just punish the crime without understanding why the crime was committed and truly rehabilitate these boys. We have enough Black men in prison who get out without proper Rehabilitation. Don’t get me wrong, I think what happened to this little girl is horrible but I do understand some of the history of Liberia. My heart goes out to the little girl and I hope she will get a good family to love her and help her through the trauma of being raped with counseling and the best therapy that money can buy.

As for the parents, I feel saddened at their decision to disown their own child but if this is their way/culture then the little girl is probably better off being w/out them in the long run. Just think of the verbal and psychological abuse she may have to endure living with people who are ashamed of her. I found a good clip about Liberian Child Soldiers. Only God knows that we here in the United States no matter the challenges we face are truly blessed to be here as opposed to some of these other countries.
