As a black woman over 40, what is your perspective?

As a woman of color, what is your perspective on dating outside of your race and online dating? I am particularly interested in hearing from those of you who are over 40 years of age because that's where I'm living.

A while ago now, I was convinced by a friend to launch out into the world of online relationship sites. This friend has met and now been married for about four years to a man she met online.

I have always been skeptical about this, but this friend is actually the third person in my circle of friends who has found love online. So I decided to try it.

Well to my surprise, I have been inundated with lots of mail from white and Latino men. It was strange to me, this attention from these men, even though I have one brother who has never dated anything but white girls and my sister is married to a Latino. I, myself, have never dated outside of my race, although I have dated, and eventually married, an African man. I had never even considered it. I love black men and have always visualized myself in relationship with a black man.

Well, recently, I decided to join an online site that was developed specifically for black singles. I figured that there, I would find relief from this discomfort in the attentions of my black brothers.

Little did I know that I would meet him, there.

He's Godly, gorgeous, charming, sensitive, well-educated,... and white.

I have come to realize how attracted I am to him and I am shocked.

Your thoughts...

I say, GO AHEAD SISTER!!!!! I, just like you love my brothers. Its just something about a dark skinned brother that does it for me but right now SOME brothers aren't doing what they are supposed to do. Some actually do love the white sisters they are with and others like what they think having a white sister on their arms will get them. I love my brothers and i find SOME of them to be lazy, insecure and irresponsible. Also I have noticed that balck men and black women have a big problem communicating what they want from each other. They each expect the other to automatically know how they feel and thats crazy. We sisters have to learn how to better respect and listen to out brothers and the brothers have to learn to be honest and truthful about their feelings and not shut out those yousay you care about. We need to learn how to better communicate and relate to each other, just being black isn't enuff. I feel if you have a good man, he loves the Lord and he is treats you like a real man should, I say go for it. A good man is truly hard to find black, white, latino or otherwise.

My prayers are with you and my God's will be done in both your lives.

There is no black or white where there is light (in the illumination of the knowledge of God's unconditional love). We were all created by God so what matters most is the love and committment that person has for you and not so much about what others think. If he makes you happy, I would say go for it. That's my 2 cents worth.

I Say "Get It Girl" follow your heart. Stop setting limitations on your heart and relationship. So often we ask for something it expecting it to come in a specific looking package only to turn away from what we asked for becasue it was not package the way we expected it to be. I agree with the other sisters that black or white doesn't matter to God so why should it matter to you. Be happy, enjoy life and try "Something New"!

Go where your heart leads you! It does not matter the color of his skin, it's the content of his character, girl! I too am over 40 and looking for someone, regardless of white or black. And, if you know me I am a very black sister who believes in everything black, but when it comes to your heart and happiness, color doesn't matter, period! Best of luck!
