HBCUs VS. Historically White Schools: Which Offers the Better Opportunity

Im asking this question because I have to make a choice between Spelman College, an HBCU and also my dream school, and Mercer University, a historically white school located in Macon, GA. Both are really good schools and can offer me great opportunities after graduation. Because of the economy, it's hard for my family to send me to Spelman without scholarships. I've recieved some local ones but its still goin to be hard to pay for it. Mercer, on the other hand, offered me a scholarship to attend, and with the local monies ive recieved its a little easier for me to go there. Also, because of the field I would like to go into (medical scientist), I know I will be working with a prodominantly white community. But Spelman gives me the feeling of "home" and because of its rich history and atmosphere draws me to it. I feel I will do well at both schools, so my question is whether I should choose the school where I feel the most comfortable and could get a good education or attend a school where I know I will not be comfortable in but have a better education and opportunities? HELP ME OUT PLEASE!!

I went to a HBCU (Central State University) for two years then I transferred to University of Nevada Las Vegas which is a predominantly white school. At CSU I experienced some of the best times of my life, I met life long time friends and I just enjoyed being around people who shared the same interest as me. I loved going to parties band competition and so much more. UNLV is a different world in most of my classes I am the only black face but I feel at UNLV I am able to experience different cultures and that's pretty much what the real world is....I say visit both schools and then make your choice

Having a feel for both cultures is great. But to tell you the truth I let go of a Spelman scholarship and I wish I would have attended. My friends that went there told me how great it was and there are white people that go there. The experience prepared them for the real world, something I didn't get, and as a result I feel they were more prepared to face the realities of america (at least at our time). I really envy them for that. Go to Spelman and maybe after a couple of years you could transfer but definetely go to Spelman I am still regretting that that choice.
