War on Cancer? Looks more like warring about who makes the most profits!

War on Cancer? Looks more like warring about who makes the most profits!

Have you heard that 40 years ago war was declared on cancer and since then billions of dollars have been spent trying to find a cure? Well I'm thoroughly convinced that there is too much money in the "cancer" business to ever find a cure. The treatments today are almost the same as they were back in 1971. What is happening to the billions of dollars being allocated to find a cure?? The only thing I see is the drug companies profiting from all the drugs that treat the symptoms, not addressing a cure.

I was just reading in the Times online that some oncologists have attempted to increase profits by "performing chemotherapy more often or installing multimillion-dollar imaging machines where they profit when their patients receive diagnostic scans" and by "putting new pressure on cancer patients to make out-of-pocket drug copayments".

In our health care (or as I like to call it 'sick care') doctors are paid by procedure not for time spent with patients, so many find ways to profit from Medicare. Is there any wonder as to why our nation is out of control in it's health care (sick care) spending??

This makes me very concerned since I'm am now battling cancer for a 2nd time and looking at the insurance claims far more is being paid out this time than was paid 10 years ago. Another reason this concerns me is because the incidence of breast cancer is one of the most common cancers to occur among African-American women and is ranked 2nd in all cancer related deaths.

Will there be greater abuse amongst our people due to our lack of knowledge?

What are your thoughts?
