The light skin/dark skin complex

As the age of thirty is creeping up on me I find it hard to believe that we continue to hate on one another just on the basis of skin color. As if we do not have enough to focus on and/or worry about like our family, health, education, etc. God made black women in varying shades and shapes unlike any other race. I compare us to a beautiful prism shining in multiple lights.

I'm obviously a light skinned women based upon the fact that generations of my family have mixed with other nationalities. I love people in general whom are friendly and grounded regardless of race, creed or religion. I'm in awe when I catch the "evil eye" or negative comments directed towards me because of my skin color.

As I am ordering breakfast at a restaurant w/ my fiance he asks for hash browns. The waitress asks him if he would like them browned. He replies "Yes". She smirks and comments " Well at least you like something dark" while she rolls her eyes and walks away. I'm in shock and stare at my fiance like WTF! I decided not to even engage with her because she was obviously attempting to pick a fight and I'm ABOVE getting into petty nonsense. I'm a light skinned women with a range of skin colors in my family and I never have considered this practice legitimate. Willie Lynch letter BS.

My sistas for those of you who are still hung up on the light/dark complex. Take sometime and ask yourself WHY you insist on carrying on this backwards tradition on.
Let's focus on uniting as women so we can take our communities back!

I am with you on that. Shades run through my family. I'm caramel, i have a dark sister and two high yellow sisters. Not one of my girls have the same hue. They range from chocolate chip to a sugar cookie. I think she may have had a hard time or bad day. I have alot of dark skinned friends who complain of being treated differently and with all the rappers making comments of not like dark skinned females you have to feel their pain. Personally I have always loved dark and secretly wished I had more hue. It's not about the shade but the personality and I'm glad that you chose not to let her take you to that point.

But you see Sister, we talk a good game about this thing called UNITY, but do not execute it.
Mostly , we focus on personal gain, what you can "DO FOR ME" !
If you can't, or won't,I have no need for you or your friendship !
Instead of helping each other within ourselves with True aspects of Divine Sisterhood.
The negative ? This is how others before us has been, so we have come to accept it.
Everything you mentioned here is in regards to severe body-pain that remains deep-seated within the "Female Psyche ", especially within the Black Woman. ( her's is more severe than any other)
We have a hard time accepting who we truly are and actually, what we WERE !
GBG is tring hard to help women develope in this area, we must change !
Thanks for sharing.
