DO YOU REALLY HAVE TALENT???
If you are a DANCER...can you really DANCE? or can you shake your booty really good.
If you are a SINGER...can you really SING? or do you just have a nice voice.
If you are a RAPPER...can you really RAP? or do you just have a nice beat over a nice hook.
If you are a ACTRESS/ACTOR...can you really ACT? or do you just want to be in the movies.
If you are a MODEL...do you have the height/the look? or are just nice looking.
Everyone has seen the bloopers of American Idol. There are plenty of people on there that should re-evaluate their career choice. This is something that you should really think about when trying to getting into the entertainment industry. If you are a parent with minor(s), a teenager or young adult trying to find your way. Really ask yourself...be HONEST with yourself. I know that seems kind of harsh. As the saying goes the TRUTH HURTS, but it can also save you a lot of hardship, heartache and embarrassment. If you are not sure, go to a few professionals and ask them to be honest with you. Ask if they have any suggestions or pointer about what direction you should be going.
Do some research on your talent. Ask me, how do I know? I have seen it time and time again. People coming out of auditions broken, crying, stressed, mad because of what some casting agent has or has not said. No matter how painful, HONESTY is the best policy. Ask my daughter, I tell her the truth. I would think it would be better to hear from me then to get in front of industry professionals who could and would be brutal.
Do your homework...research your talent. All great artist(s) studying their craft... and study other talent. When my daughter first got into the industry, she was beginning to be noticed as a good hip-hop dancer. I took her to showcases, auditions, productions, etc. etc. to show her people in the same industry. Believe me her eyes were wide open then. She saw even though she may be talented; she had a lot more work to do. She saw that she had just tipped the iceberg; she had to become more rounded in her craft meaning great dancers studied ballet, jazz, contemporary, lyrical and so on. She began to understand it is not about the videos. Great dancers travel all over the world and get on Broadway or with great dance companies.
I hope that you understand where I am going. Everyone is entitled to their option and this is just mine. I am not trying to discourage anyone from their dreams but it is just something that you can think about. Now this is the part where "How Bad Do You Really Want It." With a lot of work at what ever it is you want to do...TRIAL and ERROR ...is usually how we find out what are TRUE GIFTS REALLY ARE.
very true!
