Not the first

I love reading about "Black" history. I've learned so much that's not in the history books. Ever notice that in the US "HIS" story books that when it comes to Black people, the only things talked about are slavery, Rev. Dr. Martin L. King, Jr's "I have a dream" speech, Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. However, as time went on more Black people have been recognized and acknowledged, Madame CJ Walker, Lewis Latimore, Matthew Henson, Phyllis Wheatley, Langston Hughes, Soror Zora Neal Hurston. Yet based on books I have read, I have learned that if it wasn't for a Black woman, George Washington would not have been president. His enemies wanted her to poison him. She warned him, instead. On that note, George Washington was not the first President. He was maybe the 3rd, but the most recognized and noted. President Obama was not the first Black President. There was a Black President (both parents Black) who was President for 1 day. He won fair n square, but there were people who just couldn't deal with having a Black President. Speaking of presidents, President Alexander Hamilton's mother was West Indian. Rosa Parks was not the first to refuse to give up her seat. There were others before her. She was most noted for her refusal and arrest. Although not Black, as far as I know, Betsy Ross did not sew the American flag. It was a lie that a relative started and the story passed down for generations that Betsy Ross sewed the American flag. Look how long it took before it was realized that Columbus didn't discover America. How can one discover land that's already occupied? In addition to that, the Statue of Liberty was not the first gift we were to receive from France. It was actually going to be a Black woman holding up broken chains.

We are an amazing and resilient people used to struggle, used to being left out, but always confident that GOD will make things right no matter what. We didn't get credit for a lot of things we did, but the word still got out. We just have to keep making sure others hear about our rich heritage. They can't keep us down!
