What i like best about travel is the connection i make with the people i meet.
Women, i find all share the same concern with regards for our family. The family dynamics is the same for Afro -Caribbean as it does for Afro-Canadian, Brazil or America. The family seems to be affected by the trends of today where youths are immersed in the 'hype'.
It doesn't matter the class the family is coming from. Young men and women, all dress the same world wide. Most attempt the same swagger and style catching their cap sideways on their heads.
I saw 4 young men from not so well to do family, all dressed in the same manner, baggy pants and boxer shorts with over sized shirts. What caught my attention was that they walked like they were joined at the hips. Taking a closer look, i saw that they were sharing head phones. That was it! They are bonded by the music they all listened to or rather the message they were hearing that programed and directed everything they did and think. I think if music has such a strong influence, then the message should be more of love and respect for self and others. It should be the kinda messaged, KRS1 use to sing. Messages that reminds them who they are and where they come from. Messages to remind them of the greatness that is theirs from Kemet to Babylon.
We will be going back to that time again....for sure.
I have to say though, the beat is wicked! no doubt; but the messages must be changed.
