The Perfect Mess - Revised

If the saying is true that "what you do most, you do best", ask yourself if you are putting too much time and energy into perfecting a mess. Be it with friends or colleagues, a mate or partner, a job or pastime...we must invest our time as wisely as I HOPE we are investing our dollars. After all, in this economy, we likely have more time than we do money at the end of the day.

Examine your relationships and how and where you invest your time and conduct an honest assessment. Pose the question, what 3 things am I doing on a regular basis that serve me no purpose and offer me no sense of support or security? Identifying them may be the hardest part because like they say, "old habits die hard," and nobody likes stopping anything "cold turkey" but if you ascribe to the notion that you have to be true to yourself before you can be true to anyone else, eliminating those things should be easy.

Let's look at a real world example of why it's a simple task...say you have a broken ironing board, an iron that leaks water and leaves rust spots on your clothes and only has one temperature setting; Burn! Do you keep making do, holding the ironing board hoping that it will eventually balance itself out? Do you attempt to iron and keep your fingers crossed hoping you don't scorch another blouse? Do you risk leaving a permanent mark on your silk blend slacks because of a temperature setting you can't adjust or a rusty water stain only to be disappointed again? Likely not. At some point you'll feel the need to break down and get rid of the old and non functioning piece so that you can make way for the new. The same approach should be applied to your life or what you'll have is an invaluable collection of things, people and pastimes that do you no earthly good. Be careful of the things you do most, because ultimately they will become the things you do best and the last thing anybody needs is a perfect mess!!
