An Organized Desk but...

An Organized Desk but...

I rather see an organized desk top than one that's cluttered. But...I admit too, a cluttered desk makes to me an impression of a very busy person. Now, look from these points of view... You walk into the doors of a company, or organization to receive a service. You are sent to a desk to speak with a representative about your needs. There is the first impression of what goes on with your contact. What you view in this first few moments is a cluttered desk. Do you think, this is a very busy person? Do you think what a mess, this person is not organized at all? It could have an outlook on what you might be in for, either a long wait, or even being forgotten about. Now let's look at the other side. You walk in, the representative's desk is clean, neat and everything appears to be in an orderly manner. The office has art on the wall with plagues and even maybe a few family pics about. Immediately, I'm impressed that this person who presents a safe, and trustworthy enviornment that I'm almost certain I can feel I can get good service. Of course, they both (organized or clutter), could offer a great service! It's strange too, neither one of them give warranty to give you a perfect service. However, impressions help out and you the "business person" has to be the one who concentrate on delivery of a good service to your customer. Businesses that are clean and create a nice enviorment usually attracts more consumers. Who knows, some one may be watching your desks. Someone like you and me. Just offering a professional tip of appearances. Now, my desk top is clean and organized but...my desk drawers?...I'll never tell. Have a happy business!

I feel that the person is basically disorganized if they have a cluttered desk. Even if they have an idea of where something is, they still end up hunting for it, praying it hasn't fallen off into their 'black hole'. I am pretty organized. I keep three trays on my desk - one for current projects I'm working on, one for the ones I'm finished with and one for incoming projects. They are stacked on one side. On the other side are two more - incoming/outgoing mail. Then there is the computer with my CD tower, a stapler and a tape dispenser. Each desk drawer is organized as well, with the exception of one... that's my junk drawer. It's my own private black hole and I clean it out once a month.

What a interesting question. I tend to have an organized desk at home and at work. I tend to put things were they go, I believe in efficiency / sometimes I am inefficient as I do not do things as they should be. However for the most part I tend to handle things quickly; unless it is not possible. When I leave my desk is in order so that I begin most days orderly.

Cindy, I welcome your comment. Generally, I do keep some order. When I clutter up, (on desktop) I like to make sure I work on one project at a time. You sound very organized and very efficient..Now next time I need tips on organizing can I write you an e-mail? Thanks again.
