Another Generation of Me!
I am the youngest and only girl of 4 children. When I was born my mother wrote a poem called Another Generation of Me. I grew up with the security of a very stable home with two parents who loved their children. I was naive and believed that every girl/woman had a close relationship with their mother the way that I had and have with mine.
My mother is my best friend (besides my husband). She is my prayer partner, my shopping buddy, my laughing partner, my mommy, and my girl! She is everything to me. Through the years she has taught me how to be strong and how to be weak. She also taught me when it was appropriate to be either one. She has been my mentor and my hero. She taught me how to speak up for myself, how to laugh, and how to cry. Most important she taught me how to rely upon God. Now my father was there with her through the journey of my life yet there was something about having my "sister" there right beside me. She has been the only true sister that I have ever known. I have sisters-in-law that I love dearly but no one can hold a candle to the nurture and care of sister mommy! I can talk to her about anything no matter how embarrassing. Good or bad she has my back and she always supports my dreams. She gives me the confidence to know that no dream or goal is outside of my reach. When I have no faith in myself, she has enough for both of us.
Now don't get me wrong. We've had our hard times and disagreements but they never last for long. We can't go for more than a few days without hearing one another's voice. She completes me in every way and gives me a glimpse of how bright my future truly is. We are definitely IRON SHARPENING IRON because sometimes our attempts at helping one another sends the sparks flying. Yet we always come back to the foundation of our love and friendship. Nothing can tear that foundation apart because it is real and strong and blessed by God. It is because God chose to bless me with her that I have this phenomenal, indelible relationship with this awesome woman!
My mother is not just a mother, sister, and friend. She is a woman. She understands those things that sometimes moms forget because she always remembers that she's a woman first. She is not perfect yet she possesses perfect love for her children and she gets that love from the Lord and passes it to each of us in the correct doses just when we need it the most. Her hugs take away the hurts of this world and sometimes just hearing her breathe is enough to soothe away the pain. Her smile is infectious and the work ethic that she has modeled and taught us will forever ensure that every generation after her will be immune to laziness. She is a go getter and she achieves whatever she goes after. She is educated and tenacious when it comes to learning and receiving all of the knowledge that is available for one to learn. Age does not matter when it comes to learning and growing. You are never too old to be all that you can be!
My mommy is awesome and I am a better person, a better woman because of her! It is because of my naiveté regarding mother/daughter relationships that she and I have decided to put together a conference entitled, "Another Generation of Me". This will be a weekend long conference filled with teaching, training, and practical exercises to help mothers and daughters to reconnect at the most basic levels. Daughters need their mothers and mothers need their daughters. It is of the utmost importance that these relationships be mended and strengthened while there is still time. The weekend will include gifts and many surprise twists and turns. The retreat site is absolutely beautiful and serene. It is located in Maryland on the water--an excellent place to get away in order to relax and receive healing. The retreat cost will include all lodging, 5 meals, conference materials, and special gifts and prizes. The current pending date for the retreat is mid-June.
I would like to know if there are women out there reading this who would find a conference of this type beneficial. Do you need this conference? Does someone you know need this conference? How much would a conference of this magnitude be worth to you? Would you attend and would you bring your mother, sisters, or others with you?
We know this is a calling from the Lord and we are moving forward as God leads. We would really be encouraged by any feedback you would like to give, both positive and negative. We need to hear from you. We are welcoming everyone from every state to this conference. Will you please let me know what you think? Thanks in advance for taking the time to do so.
God Bless you in all of your relationships. Cherish your mother, whoever she may be. She was given to you for a reason. Thanks for your time and God Bless.
