The Top 10 Reasons a Black Woman's Attitude is Justified!!!

In my second book entitled "Food for the Soul" I discussed the top 10 reasons a black woman's attitude is justified. The one reason, or statistic that I found most profound and significant was the high mortality rate of our babies.

According to statistics:

"Over the past few years, several researchers have published studies in the American Journal of Public Health and the New England Journal of Medicine that examine this issue. The researchers found that whether rich or poor, well educated or barely literate, African-American women were still more likely than white women, first generation, poor Hispanic immigrant women and foreign-born black women to have premature and low birth weight babies."

The possible reasons and explanations are many, some that we as black women are clearly at fault for, and American society to blame for others, such as discrimination which leads to stress and poor healthcare and limited resources, to name a few, which warrants our attitude...

To better understand how we are at fault for our infants high mortality rates as well as society, and the other 9 reasons our attitudes are justified, you can get "Food for the Soul" at www.authorhouse.com ; www.amazon.com or Barnes & Noble by Maryanne D. Brown Campbell, poet, playwright and author.

Have you lost an infant to death or know a black woman who has? Do you know why or what the cause of the infant's death was?

You stated, "I'm so sick of all the **** black women "NEED" to do and what we're at fault for."

I think we all are, at least for those things out of our control. After understanding our faults however, and having to own up to some of my own, that I know I'm guilty of, in being honest with myself, most stems from our oppression. For example, a black woman's addiction to cigarettes, which she probably smokes due to stress to calm down, is one contrbuting factor that we can accept fault for and attribute to our high infant mortality rate. Black women are less likley to breast feed as well, I'm guilty, I only lasted 2 weeks. There are some things beyond our control, and then there are conscious choices we can make, to do what's right. Prenatal care is easy to come by even if you don't have medical insurance, or have low income. We don't take advantage of it early on. That's another contributing factor... there's far more. All you mentioned above, aside from church, I cover in my book entitled "Food for the Soul" and wrote it for the same sentiments of anger you expressed. In all honesty, the thing that inspired me early on was the statistic 70% of black women are single and the fact I was going through a divorce. I had to re-evaluate myself, on so many levels, and take an honest look at my faults, or where I went wrong or was wrong, in order to make a conscious effort to change the state of things. Knowledge should be power, it shouldn't be a a smack in the face, or a put down. But I understand the truth hurts, and in that "Knowledge is sorrow." I hope I didn't offend you. I only write my perceptions of the truth to enlighten and inspire change amongst black women and the black community... And being a Virgo, thus analytical by nature, I like to examine both sides, so I'll take note of your opposition and post America's faults as well next time, even though, this is blackwomenconnect.com not americaconnect.com...
