Interracial Marriage Statistics

The statistic, as it premiered on the Oprah show, that 70% of black women are single, prompted and inspired me to write my second book "Food for the Soul". I had to examine why this is, not only for the obvious reasons, but those reasons we may not have ever even considered before.

"Food for the Soul" is a 600 page compilation of a multitude of subjects, effecting and specifically for black men and women. It examines the answer to the question as to why 70% of black women are single from all angles, and offers poetry, recipes, quotes, statistics, articles and so much more.

Regarding interracial marriage, I offer two statistics, outlined in my book:

"...black men with graduate school experience are 30% more likely to marry outside their race... Overall, more than 200,000 black men are married outside their race, mostly to white women." ~Michael Eric Dyson

"Census data showed 117,000 black wife -white husband couples in 2006, up from 95,000 in 2000."

Thus, interracial marriage amongst black women is increasing, and what's most interesting, is that perhaps black men feel the same when it comes to finding a mate with their educational level, as statistics reveal more black women have higher education than black men, making it difficult for black women to date someone on their economic level, which perhaps may be an underlying factor as to why more black women are marrying outside of their race, as black men have been, all along...

What conclusions would you draw from these statistics?
Do you feel the more educated we become, the least likely we will marry a black man, or black woman?

"Food for the Soul" is available at www.authorhouse.com ; www.amazon.com and Barnes & Noble by Maryanne D. Brown Campbell.

...I don't know to be honest Maryanne...it is hard to say what drives people to marry who they marry. I justed wanted someone who had my "back" regardless of his education or job.
