BE HONEST, DO YOU MAKE, BREAK, OR KEEP YOUR NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS?

I'm being honest, I DO NOT make New Year's Resolutions. Why? Just so I wont have to say I broke and didn't keep them! I feel guilty when I don't keep promises, even to myself. I strive at setting a goal when it's necessary then I am mostly likely to commit to it and accomplish it. Now, you be honest: Do you make, break, or keep your New Year's Resolutions?

Well, I've done worse than that. I've been completely unable to fulfill a goal from Oct. '99, RENEWED with vigor every New Year's Day. Here I am 53 and have all the time in the world. Why oh why am I unable to even make much of a dent each year in READING MY OWN BOOKS? I have a stack by my bed, others on bookshelves, and about 100 in a Christmas tree box. When done with a book, I trash it, or if it's worthwhile, I give it to my Dominican gardener who gives it to his son's Salvadoran girlfriend! In '06, I read 38 books. In '07, 48. But '08's list was a measly 19. I want to get these tomes into my head, onto my list, and outta the house! So I'm damned annoyed with myself!

I believe that self-improvement is something that is on going for each person. When I see something in myself that I believe should either be removed or improved upon I make the choice to get better by what ever means that is required. Making resolutions only make you feel pressured to do something that maybe you're not quite prepared to take on. Then you get disappointed in yourself and then there is a feeling of self defeat. I think I just rather avoid all that unnecessary emotion.

I'm like you: I don't make them so I won't feel guilty or like a failure when I break them.
