Colorism - Intra-Racism - Undercover Racism In The Black Community (3881 hits)

The other post on Colorism got deleted when I made a change to a couple words.

I was well aware of intra-racism, but I had not run across the term "colorism" to apply to the practice.

Colorism is a from of intra-racism where people within the same race use color to dicriminate against one another. This is something that has gone on in the Black community for years. It could involve light skinned people discriminating against darker skinned people or darker skinned people discriminating against lighter skinned people.

When people use terms like "good hair" and "bad hair" or "light bright" we really need to be conscious that these people are guilty of Colorism so that we can educate them and try to prevent it from happening. Below is a link to a video documentary on the subject. Colorism does not only impact Black people. I found examples of Colorism in all races.
