What Is Your Theme Song?

“Amazing Grace” shall always be my song of praise, for it was “Grace”

that bought my liberty….. I do not know just how He came to love me so.

He looked beyond all my faults, and saw my needs! And I shall forever lift

mine eyes to Calvary, to view the cross where Jesus died for me…. How

marvelous, that GRACE that caught my falling soul. He looked beyond all

my faults and saw my needs.

This is my “theme song”, one of them. It is my love song to the Lord! It

is the praise I give to him and it undergirds my walk with Him. Moses sang

what must have been his theme song in the 15th chapter of Exodus. This

song was both the history and the hope of a nation! It was a testament of the

might and power of their God, and so it should be with each of us. Deborah

and Barak sang a song of victory in Judges, chapter 5 after a mighty battle

in which the enemies of the Israelites were defeated! It was a song of praise

to God who had given them the victory over all of their enemies. So we

should sing our songs of victory in this life when the Lord shows His mighty

power on our behalf.

Psalm 33:3 says, “Sing to Him a new song.”As you walk through your

journey in this life, what is your theme song? Before I knew, the Lord the

songs I sang only glorified the flesh and the sin of the world. The songs I

sang spoke only of things that have no lasting value because they were not

inspired by God! Those songs gave glory to the prince and powers of the

air. They bound me. But praise be to God who causes me to triumph and

who has put a new song in my mouth.

The word “inspired” means, “to affect, guide, or arouse by divine

influence” or “to draw in by inhaling”. When I invited the Lord into my

heart, He “breathed” the breath of new life into me, and, as I took Him into

myself, I was “inspired”. The love relationship I have with Him is a

continuation of that cycle. He breathes into my heart, mind, soul and spirit

and I am affected and guided by His “inspiration”. This influences my

song! It challenges me to offer him my life as a song of worship!

The song may change or vary with the different seasons of my life,

however, the theme remains the same… my love for Him and my gratitude

for His unfailing grace! Today, I may be walking through a valley of

despair, singing, “It is well with my soul”, but soon I will stand on the

mountain peak of triumph, singing, “How Great Thou Art!” This month I

may be singing “Victory Chant” but one day, I’ll cry out, “I Need Thee,

Ev’ry Hour”. The beauty of it is, that no matter my circumstance, as I trust

Him, the songs He has put in my heart are a constant reminder of His grace,

His mercy, and His love.

What song are you singing today?
