Bethune-Cookman University Receives $200,000 Endowment Fund (945 hits)

Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) recently received a transformative $200,000 endowed scholarship donation from Rev. Robert Gibbs, a retired United Methodist minister and former Wildcat trustee.

Rev. Gibbs’ gift – established in honor of his late father – represents one of the most significant recent contributions to B-CU and will provide perpetual support for students majoring in religious studies or preparing for Christian ministry. This generous donation ensures that deserving students will receive scholarship assistance for generations to come.

“This remarkable gift exemplifies the kind of visionary leadership we hope to see from our United Methodist clergy family,” said The Reverand Dr. Albert Mosley, B-CU’s 8th president, who is also an ordained United Methodist clergyperson. “Rev. Gibbs has set a powerful example of how fellow clergy can make a lasting impact on theological education and student success.”

The endowment aligns seamlessly with the founding vision of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, who championed education as a means to serve others and strengthen communities. Rev. Gibbs’ investment reflects the university’s ‘B-CU Rising: All of Us, All In,’ momentum and marks the second major gift since Dr. Mosley began his presidential tenure on July 7.

A Call to Action for United Methodist Clergy
Rev. Gibbs' leadership gift serves as an inspiring model for other United Methodist clergy and lay persons who share a commitment to nurturing future religious leaders. His endowment demonstrates how individual clergy and lay members can create lasting legacies that will impact students for decades to come.

“I invite my United Methodist clergy colleagues and laypersons to consider how they too can invest in the future of ministry through Bethune-Cookman University,” state President Mosley. “Whether through endowed scholarships, annual giving, or planned gifts, every contribution helps ensure that B-CU continues to prepare servant leaders who will strengthen our churches and communities.”

The university is actively seeking additional clergy partners who want to make a meaningful difference in theological education and student support.
