McDonald’s Reinforces Longstanding Commitment to HBCU Community by Supporting the 77th Magic City Classic! (6605 hits)

College rivalry may be front and center at the 77th McDonald’s Magic City Classic this Saturday, but the Golden Arches will be on deck to bring together fans who are true to their HBCU. As a brand, McDonald’s is committed to educational empowerment. And this weekend, its pulling out all the stops!

For the first time, 100 deserving students from Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University will travel to the Magic City Classic, courtesy of McDonald’s USA. The brand is also granting one lucky Alabama State University student with a $10,000 True to the HBCU Scholarship during halftime. This is one of four scholarships the company is giving to well-deserving HBCUers this year, totaling $40,000.

The McDonald’s HBCUnion, hosted by Emmy Award Winner and national broadcast personality Big Tigger, is a one-of-a-kind tailgate experience where fans will bond as one HBCU Family, enjoy delicious McDonald’s menu items including World Famous Fries, special appearances from DJ Envy of the Breakfast Club and popular hip-hop group F.LY. (Fast Life Yungstaz) as they lead the crowd in their famous SWAG SURF!

WHAT: McDonald’s is proud to serve as title sponsor for the 77th Magic City Classic, featuring Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University, the largest historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in the state. This is one of many ways the brand demonstrates its deep commitment to the community through its True to the HBCU platform.

WHO: For the first time, McDonald’s USA is bringing 100 deserving students from Alabama State University and Alabama A&M University to the much-anticipated Magic City Classic to meet in the middle, swapping rivalry for comradery at the McDonald’s HBCUnion Tailgate. Hosted by national broadcast personality Big Tigger, the unique tailgate experience is designed to bring opponents together to show we have more in common than we think, despite which school we represent. Special guest DJ Envy will grace the turntables and popular hip-hop group F.LY. (Fast Life Yungstaz) will lead the crowd in their famous “Swag Surf.”

McDonald’s will present one lucky HBCU student with a $10,000 True to the HBCU scholarship, facilitated by Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF). This is the second of four scholarships the brand is presenting to commendable students to help cover higher education expenses, such as tuition, room, board and books, that can sometimes hinder students from achieving graduation.
