This book, “Seven Miles To Freedom” is a great book to introduce young readers to the valuable and important contribution to Black History by Gullah-Geechee African-Americans.
“Seven Miles To Freedom” is beautifully illustrated allowing youth to interpret the story in pictures. The story of Robert Smalls is an important story describing how brave and courageous he was. It also tells the story of how desperate he was to be free from slavery and help his family and others to be free from slavery, too.
This is a book that will cause young black children to learn more about the great blacks who contributed to our black history and make them proud all year long about Black History. What I like the best about this children’s book is that children will easily find a page worth framing and hanging in their bedroom proudly!
