A New Year's Day 5.1 earthquake rumbled in the Pacific Ocean waters ringing it's way to the start of a new year. The quake struck in Northern California coast about 70 miles west of the town of Ferndale, CA according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The near by city of Ferndale reported no injuries or damages from the quake. However, an earlier 6.0 earthquake in August did cause substantial damages and one woman died as a result of that quake.
