China Plans to Build World’s Tallest Skyscraper in Just 90 Days (713 hits)
A Chinese construction company is insisting that it will be able to build the world's tallest skyscraper in a matter of weeks.
The Broad Sustainable Building corporation tells the Construction Week magazine it is confident it can complete the 220-storey building, dubbed Sky City, in just 90 days.
The group says the 838-meter structure in the south-central city of Changsha will be completed at an astonishing pace of five storeys a day, using a special method that uses prefabricated sections.
Officials say construction is expected to begin by the end of the year, but they are still waiting for Chinese government approval of the project. When completed, it will house over 31,000 people, as well as schools, hospitals, offices and other businesses.
The building was designed by engineers who worked on Dubai's Burj Khalifa, which at 828 meters is currently the world's tallest building. Broad Sustainable Building gained attention in late 2011, when it built a 30-storey building in just 15 days using the same modular technology.

The mammoth building is planned to be built in only three months The half-mile high superstructure will be 32ft taller than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai - the current tallest building - and is expected to cost almost half as much. It will dwarf the Shard in London, standing more than 530m above the western Europe's tallest building and, when completed, will mean nine of the 10 tallest skyscrapers in the world are in Asia.

This astonishing pace, which will see five storeys go up a day, is down to the revolutionary method of prefabricated building where blocks are built off site and slotted together to save time. Despite concerns about its structural rigidity, Broad Group says the half-mile high building will be able to withstand a magnitude 9.0 earthquake. The idea isn't pie in the sky thinking either, with Broad making headlines last year when they built a 30-storey building in 15 days.
