PeopleWhoProsper.com is proud to Introduce Ms. June Smith of Tajj Cosmetics. I am excited to share her story today as it is a true example of taking matters into your own hands. For over 13 years, June suffered from discoloration on her toes from corns. As a result, in 2008 she created a product to cover the discoloration that was waterproof and lasted all day. After 6 months of testing she realized this could be a product that could help so many other women with the same problem. After an overwhelming response to the product from her customers she decided to expand her product line in 2011. She now offers a full makeup line for women of color, receiving recognition from several publications. She is looking to be a leading provider of makeup for women of color.I'm so glad to have met her and now's your chance. Here is the e-interview I had with her.

1.Tell me your story. What were you doing before you started your own business?

Before I started TAJJ Cosmetics, I worked as a Divisional Administrator at one of Canada’s major financial institute.

2. What made you want to start a business and what is your mission?

I started TAJJ Cosmetics because of my own need. I wanted a product for the feet that was not just a makeup with color, but something that was specially developed for the feet, one that would last for over 24 hours and matched perfectly with my skin tone. After realizing that there wasn’t any such product out there on the market, I contacted a major cosmetic company to developed the product, and after six months of testing the product on myself and others, I realized I had a product that would make a difference in other women lives as myself, giving them back the confidence to expose their toes without anyone knowing they have corn. My mission for TAJJ is to become the leading cosmetics company for women of color.

3. What inspires you? What keeps you motivated daily to keep growing your business?

I get inspired from the people around me, my family and my customers, their reaction during a make over show, the emails and phone calls I receive is such an inspiration to me. I started receiving emails and phone calls from the people who purchased the corn concealer, and wanted to know if they could use the product on their faces and other part of their body, so I knew then that I needed provide a market for more products for women of color.

4. Do you have a mentor? Who is it and why? Do you believe it's important to have one?

I wouldn’t say that I have a professional mentor, but my girlfriend Stacey Hewitt and I have been friends for over 35 years, she is the person that I call when I need to get an opinion about something, she is an honest and I trustworthy person, who is highly intelligent and educated and I truly do value her opinions.

5. What would you tell someone who wants to get involved in your line of business but doesn't know how to get started?

I would say try to do something different, find a niche, especially if no one knows who you are or have never heard about you. The cosmetic market is dominated by some major names out there, so...one has to be very strong and believe in their products and know that they have something to contribute in the market.

6. What advice would you give to someone with an entrepreneurial spirit?

First you have to have a passion for what it is that you want to do, believe in yourself and the products that you have to offer. You have to be persistent, and not just focused on the money, but first your desire to fulfill your purpose.

Thank you June for your story! Keep in mind that reading other success stories can motivate you to continue to work hard until you find your motivation too!
