Our Blogs are Beautiful- Dr. Kimberly Manning (1747 hits)
Welcome to another feature of the Our Blogs are Beautiful series in honor of Black History month.
This series will shine the spotlight on those beautiful sistas who are on their own paths to greatness, trailblazers in their own rights. These sistas are essentially setting the stage for history making on their own. The sistas that will be honored here are authors of some of the most prolific writings you will ever see. They are Beautiful Black Bloggers.
They are extraordinary sistas doing extraordinary things. They have visions and are living their lives filled with so much purpose and passion. Not only are they talking the talk, but they are walking the walk. And the best part about it is that they are still youthful, flying high on eagles wings, with a lot of miles left in them to accomplish more great feats.
Today's spotlight is on the dynamic Kimberly Manning, MD.
I've dubbed her "SuperWoman" because she is literally doing it all.
By day, she is a physician with the Emory University School of Medicine on staff at the Grady Health System in Atlanta, Georgia.
By night, she is a wife, mother, friend, cook, housekeeper, party planner, transporter, you name it, she probably does it.
Dr. Manning has made her rounds on several television shows including the Dr. Oz show, CNN and regularly appears on the Fox5 Atlanta news channel offering her advice and expertise on medical and health-related issues.
I told you she was a superwoman. And with all of that, she still finds time to blog. That's right ladies & gentlemen. This SuperWoman also makes time in her busy life, to journal her life experiences. Her blog began in 2009 and has since been featured in the O Magazine (Oprah's magazine).
Her blog, Reflections of a Grady Doctor has a specific purpose:
"Working on the frontlines of a public hospital can be quite an experience. . . . . I write this blog to share the human aspects of medicine + teaching + work/life balance with others -- and to honor the public hospital and her patients--but never at the expense of patient privacy or dignity." (RoGD)
Dr. Manning journals her life as a physician in a public hospital that is also a teaching hospital, the interactions with her patients, the lessons that she teaches along with those that she learns. She has a genuine interest in the health and well-being of her patients.
Her blog tells of inspiring stories of the friendships that she has formed with her colleagues, including the medical students who hang on to her every word, soaking in the vast knowledge that she has to offer.
We all know that balance is one of the most important keys to success. You'll find blog posts on how she is able to keep balance in her personal as well as her professional life. With her schedule at work and a family at home, balance is the key to suceeding at both. Her story of how she met her husband is a must read. I loved it!
