How Do I......Reinvent Myself (1243 hits)

There are so many television shows out there about outer beauty and makeovers. Makeovers are good and can play a pivotal part in one’s life. But what about making over the one thing that will last and become the true nature of who a person is, SELF?

Reinventing Self; what does that mean and how do I make that happen?
To reinvent means to make over, revive, or to remake. So, to reinvent yourself you have to rediscover who you are and revive that true inner nature of your being.
It is taking the time to search deep within yourself and pulling out those things that truly make you happy. To do this, you’re going to have to make some changes, because that’s what this is all about. You will need to abandon all notions of fear and rise up to meet this task head on.

What would it be like to become the person you’ve always wanted to be? Can you imagine how that would feel, knowing that you are exactly who you were always meant to be, living the life that you were always meant to live?

As a child, we all had big dreams of the life that we wanted. If someone asked what you wanted to be when you grew up, you could tell them, fearlessly and without hesitation. There was a fire and passion in your eyes when you recited all of the wonderful things that you would do and have when you grew up. But somewhere along the way, things changed, and those dreams were either delayed or abandoned all together. Life and all of its distractions got in the way, and your hopes and dreams took a back seat. Your day-to-day activities became so routine, that you could do them without even thinking about it. It’s kind of like taking the same route to work everyday. You drive that same route without thinking and sometimes arrive without realizing that you’re there. That has happened to me several times. Is that anyway to really live life? Going through the motion without awareness, without enthusiasm, and without the excitement of what each new day will bring? Absolutely not!

Are you someone who needs to reinvent your life? Do you need to reinvent and explore a new career, explore new relationships, move to a new location, dive into new and more fulfilling hobbies and activities? Perhaps, there was something that you were truly passionate about, back in the day, and it would be fun to rediscover that again. Maybe you would like a total makeover with a new bold hair style, a new style of clothing and a new confidence in your strut and your image. Whatever the reinventing is, now is the time to do it. And here are some practical steps to begin:

1. First decide what it is about yourself and your life that you want to reinvent. You have to know this before you can begin. Take the time to really give this some thought. If you need help with this, work with a life coach (give me a call).

2. Put it on paper. Write it down or create a new vision board for the new you. Again, you are taking one step at a time, so get a vision of what you're planning to remake or revive.

3. Abandon the fear of not knowing the end result. To paraphrase Martin, you don’t need to see the entire stair case, you just need to take the first step and then take one step at a time. Even the smallest steps count, but you have to set yourself in motion.

4. Realize that other people are not in the same place that you are when it comes to You making changes in your life. That is OK. This is about YOU and becoming who YOU were meant to be. Some people will fall by the wayside as you continue to climb this staircase of reinvention. Don’t let them throw toxins in your new mix. Instead, let them go. Everyone cannot and will not be a part of this journey. That’s OK. You just keep going higher. Besides, you will meet more people who are on that same path as you and will develop even better relationships.

5. Do this at your own pace. You know better than anyone else how much you want this and how quickly you want to get there. Realize that doing this will take you out of your comfort zone. If not, you would have done it a long time ago. Change is uncomfortable and will cause you to meet challenges in ways that you didn’t know were in you.

Reinventing yourself is about creating a new you in one area of your life or a total reinvention. It’s totally up to you how you will go about doing that. Be patient with yourself. Understand that this change is not going to happen overnight. It takes time and effort for a true reinvention. As you continue to go higher, you will notice that you are actually going back in time to that little child who knew exactly who and what they wanted to be. Who says that kids don’t know anything?

Hey Sister Sandi! It's been a minute, eh? How are you? Thanks so much for this really fabulous blog on reinventing one's self and all without cosmetic surgery. All jokes aside, I thank you for listing the very simple steps to a new you (or me) because they were so simple even a child could follow them. That's was I call simple, but profound. I'm trying to make some changes for myself and hopefully adding some of the steps you listed will get me there. I'll let you know how it all turns out. Take care and have a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy & Prosperous New Year!
