FOR COUPLES GOING THROUGH THE STORM (205 hits)

Marriage was instituted and designed by God. At the heart of marriage is companionship and intimacy, which both husband and wife must promote. The Lord God said, "It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."...For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh Genesis 2:18-25.

The relationship between husband and wife is similar to that between Christ and the church. The husband is the head of the wife and the home, and husband must love their wives as Christ loved the church. Ephesians 5:23, 25, 31-32. Husbands must treat their wives with respect and as equal heirs of God's gifts. I Peter 3:7. The husband must manage his own home well; he is the manager. I Timothy 3:4.

In closing, couples we have to remember that this institution was ordained by God. The enemy seeks to destroy that which God has put together. If you continue to let strife, family, friends, work, church, and other outside entities dictate how your house is ran, then expect none of the scriptures to apply. Research your reasons for being together. I hope and know that the Lord will uphold this, but:

- DO NOT get married because she became pregnant or you were engaged in lustful acts and it felt good.

- DO NOT get married just because you live or want to live together.

- DO NOT get married without seeking some form of marriage or personal counseling, because bringing in baggage makes you a “DAMAGED GOOD,” and YOU cannot give your full attention to your potential spouse because of past hurts.

If are a Christian, and you were told to "not live in sin," then move out until you can manage your own business, and then join in marriage and see how good God will bless you.

Both husband and wife must seek to reflect the relationship between Christ and his church!

Great words of encouragement Archbishop Danette regarding marriage and I'll just add that marriage isn't for the "faint of heart" but for warriors who are ready to go "it" for the long haul.
