We pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way...Being strengthened with all power according ti his glorious might so that you may have greater endurance and patience. Colossians 1:1-11.
One of the most beautiful descriptions of patience in all of classic literature is this from Bishop Horne:
"Patience is the guardian of faith, the preserver of peace, the chersher of love, the teacher of humility. Patience governs the flesh, strengthens the spirit, sweetens the temper, stifles anger, extinguishes envy, subdues pride; she bridles the tongue, restrains the hand, tramples upon temptations, endures persecutions, consummates martyrdom.
"Patience produces unity in the church, loyalty in the state, harmony in families and societies; she comforts the poor, and moderates the rich; she makes us humble in prosperity, cheerful in adversity, unmoved by calamity and reproach; she teaches us to forgive those who have injured us, and to be the first in asking forgiveness of those whom we have injured; she delights the faithful, and invites the unbelieving; she adorns the woman, and approves the man; she is beautiful in either s*x and every age....
"She rides not in the whirwind and stormy tempest of passion, but her throne is the humble and contrite heart, and her kingdom is the kingdom of peace."
When the opportunity arises to be patient with your child, consider how God would respond to you in a similar circumstance.
Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don't try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. James 1:2-4.
