AKAs - Nation’s Oldest Black Sorority - Suing President for Stealing Their Money (724 hits)
(Taylor Media Services) Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha - the nation’s oldest and one of its most influential African American sororities - are suing International President Barbara McKinzie for allegedly treating their treasury as her own personal piggy bank. A recently filed lawsuit alleges that McKinzie went on a spending spree with AKA money buying expensive clothes, jewelry, lingerie and even a wax statue in her likeness.
The disgruntled members suggest the inappropriate spending totaled more than one million dollars. But McKinzie is fighting back. Last week she issued a statement calling the charges in the lawsuit “malicious allegations based on mischaracterizations and fabrications.” The AKAs boast a membership of over 250,000 college-educated Black women spread throughout the world. The group’s headquarters is in Chicago. It was unclear last week as to when court hearings will begin on the lawsuit. http://www.aka1908.org/news/mckinzie/
