Obedience doesn't stop because you're "grown" (141 hits)

As I continue to live, I learn that obedience is one of life’s staples...We just trade one kind of obedience for another. The obedience taught at an early age was really preparation for the obedience, judgment and conscience we would need to be healthy and successful adults.

We've all been told at one time or another that there will always be someone we answer to whether we like it or not. That is true. Being self-employed doesn't mean you still won't answer to someone. That "one" may be a regulating authority for the area of your career discipline, it may be the government because there are laws we are required to follow (unless you decided the laws of the land don't apply to you...that point of view gets corrected after a few run-ins with the law).

As we join professional associations, we find there are by-laws and standard operating procedures and who can deny, even at play there are rules...ask any professional athlete.

The bottom line is, we all must be obedient to some one or some thing. There is no place on the planet where we do exactly what we want when we want. Even if there is such a place, I know I would not want to live in that community.

One truth I did learn early though is the biggest payoff is spiritual obedience...I'm not talking about religion. I'm talking about having a true and personal relationship with God. Once we get that right, the other forms of obedience are less painful; especially for those of us with strong opinions and belief systems.

Who realized when we were being corrected in our early years that it was training for how to live in a civilized society as adults?
