Effective security practices require deep understanding and partnership. Reporting directly to the Director of Technology, you’ll own the day-to-day operations and technical infrastructure in an inclusive environment that both implements industry best practices and empowers our school community through education and collaboration. This is a hands-on role requiring broad technical capabilities and a collaborative mindset as you work with our MSPs and across the school community.
This is a full-time position in an independent K-12 day school for girls located in New York City, with occasional off-hours work as needed for security incidents or emergency response.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
Manage and maintain school systems including Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra and directory services, and cloud services
Administer and maintain Endpoint management systems including configuration, deployment, and troubleshooting
Administer and maintain security controls and DLP solutions according to established procedures
Maintain server systems, virtualization platforms, and related infrastructure
Manage identity and access management (IAM) operations and enforce access controls, including user provisioning, modifications, and deprovisioning
Monitor and promptly respond to security incidents including those detected by our security monitoring platforms, perform investigations within established guidelines, and collaborate with the Director of Technology on complex incidents requiring strategic decisions or significant impact assessment
Administer and maintain technical standards, procedures, controls, and related documentation in accordance with established policies
Develop automation scripts to streamline repetitive tasks and improve operational efficiency
Assist with compliance documentation and audit requests as directed by the Director of Technology
Collaborate with our Managed Services Providers (MSPs) on network and infrastructure operations, maintenance tasks, and troubleshooting, and serve as an on-site technical liaison
Execute security measures and procedures as defined by the Director of Technology in coordination with MSPs
Support backups and disaster recovery measures for the continued operation of the school
Provide operational feedback and technical input on infrastructure
Serve as a technical escalation point for Technology team members
Support educational technologies including SIS, LMS, and Video Conferencing
Provide technical input and operational feedback to support vendor and MSP relationships
Contribute to a security-conscious culture through collaboration and education efforts
Additional responsibilities as needed to meet the needs of the school
Qualifications & Requirements Required Skills and Knowledge
Security certifications (e.g. Security+, SSCP, or equivalent) required
Five years experience in systems administration with demonstrated security focus
Hands-on experience with Remote Mobility Management (RMM) technologies
Experience with domain administration, controls, and identity configurations such as IAM, SSO and MFA
Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including VLANs, switching, wireless, TCP/IP
Experience with server administration and virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar)
Experience with security alert monitoring and incident response
Proficiency with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar)
Familiarity with security frameworks and best practices
Knowledge of configurations and reporting for cloud services such as Google Workspace and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Entra, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or similar
Highly Valued Experience
Networking certifications or demonstrated expertise (CCNA, Network+, or equivalent)
Network engineering or security experience in complex environments with diverse endpoints including LAN, WAN, Data Center, security and Wireless technologies
Advanced Domain Administrator certification or demonstrated expertise (MSCE, Azure Administrator, or similar)
Project Management certification or demonstrated experience (PMP, CAPM)
Experience with security monitoring platforms beyond basic administration
Advanced Jamf Administrator certification (Jamf 300 or higher)
Experience working in K-12 education or similar educational environments
Practical experience with DLP implementation and management
Familiarity with backup management and disaster recovery execution
Understanding of service management frameworks (ITIL or similar)
