ABOUT THE POSITION
Water Resources Project Manager or Senior Water Resources Engineer
Locations: Virginia Beach, VA | Richmond, VA | Williamsburg, VA
VHB, recently recognized as a 2025 Best Managed Company by Deloitte Private and The Wall Street Journal, is seeking an experienced Water Resources Project Manager or Senior Water Resources Engineer to join our expanding I-64 team. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects ranging from site-specific developments to large-scale watershed initiatives while delivering innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions to our clients. You'll help shape solutions for stormwater management, MS4 compliance, transportation drainage, green infrastructure, BMP retrofits, and flood mitigation in a dynamic team environment where your work makes a lasting impact on water resources, ecological restoration, and infrastructure resilience.
Ability to work a hybrid schedule from our Virginia Beach, Richmond, or Williamsburg, VA locations. Applicants must be legally authorized to work for VHB in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Responsibilities
Oversee multi-disciplinary water resources projects, including client and staff interaction
Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic studies for riverine and coastal environments using current modeling software (PC SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, HY-8, SRH-2D/SMS)
Develop technical reports, design plans, construction documents, and specifications
Design stormwater systems, culverts, and stream restorations
Assist with construction administration for water resource projects
Evaluate permit requirements and develop permit applications
Support task management, budgets, and proposal development
Create and expand technical resources for staff
Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative team culture
Skills & Abilities
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Team-oriented with strong capability to motivate others
Highly motivated self-starter
Superior ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
Proficient in AutoCAD, GIS, HEC-RAS, and related tools
Knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting requirements
Qualifications
BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related discipline
8+ years of professional water resources engineering and analysis experience
Understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs
Project management experience on relevant projects
Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and MicroStation
PE (Professional Engineer) required
