The State of Connecticut, Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) is currently recruiting for a Processing Technician to work independently in the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
This position is full time, following a second shift schedule, 40 hours per week, 10:30 AM - 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with the possibility that the shift could change due to department needs and is scheduled for all non-premium holidays.
Our office runs seven days a week with optional overtime and have one satellite office (Bridgeport) that may require occasional coverage.
This Processing Technician position will handle heavy telephone/public contact; examine incoming material/application for accuracy, completeness and conformance to state statutes and regulations.
In this position you will also handle data entry of applicant credentials which are processed and related correspondences associated with fees generated, whether accepted, rejected or refunded.
You will utilize COLLECT system inquiry screens to check criminal history to determine if an applicant is eligible to purchase a firearm, obtain a pistol permit or other specialized license(s).
As a Processing Technician you will also take photographs, read and interpret complex laws and regulations as well as review criminal records from our state and other states.

In this role you will respond to internal and external inquiries for information and assistance as well as process fees and maintains financial records.
This position’s primary responsibility is to carry out a complete processing service, solely by this candidate and will include but will not be limited to:
Knowledge of office systems and procedures;
Interpersonal skills;
Oral and written communication skills;
Ability to read, understand and apply laws, regulations and guidelines;
Ability to organize and manage workflow;
Create and maintain a record keeping system;
Filing; data entry;
Ability to review documents for accuracy and completeness; and
Ability to use most office equipment including computers, cameras, scanners, facsimiles and other electronic devices and the ability to use office software.

NOTE: Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and be flexible with their work schedule.

Qualifications & Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of clerical work experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
One (1) year of the General Experience must have involved a full range of clerical duties.

NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of an Office Assistant or Interpreter Clerk.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
College training may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
