VHB’s growing Wethersfield, CT office is seeking a paid Transportation Engineer/Planner Intern to join our Transportation Systems group the summer of 2026, May to August inclusive. The selected candidate will work with an ambitious team of engineers and planners on a variety of exciting public, private, and institutional projects.
Responsibilities
Ability to think independently and manage time on tasks
Willing to learn and experience all aspects of traffic, transportation engineering and planning
Support a team of professionals in a variety of areas
Assist with traffic, transportation and planning daily tasks
Assist in the preparation of various components of traffic impact, corridor, mobility, transportation planning and intersection improvement studies
Assist with the research and preparation of reports
Work with team on planning and design concepts
Work with team on data analytics for safety and traffic data
Conduct field work using personal vehicle including traffic counts, field verification of conditions
Support project team at meetings internally and with clients
Work in CT office a minimum of 3-5 days per week
Ability to work from home when not working in the office
Ability to work in field any day of the week and for 2-3 days at a time
Skills and Attributes
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
Experience with AutoCAD and/or Microstation desired
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office
Motivated to learn and be mentored by team members
Qualifications
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, or a related field
