Overview
ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Wethersfield, CT office is looking for a Summer Intern to assist the Structural Team for the Summer of 2026. This position will introduce the student to the workplace and build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. This real-world experience will round out the student’s academic learning and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path.
Responsibilities
Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff, clients, and other consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
Assist with the development of planning and engineering solutions
Assist with engineering calculations, analysis, and report preparation
Assist with completion of conceptual, preliminary, and final construction plans
Perform quantity take-offs and calculations for construction estimates
Perform field investigations and data collection for new and ongoing projects
Skills and Attributes
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with team members
Willingness to support different engineering disciplines
Self-motivated with attention to detail
Good time management skills and the ability to meet deadline
A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
Knowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GIS; MicroStation experience, or the desire/ability to learn, a plus
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or related field
