About the Role
The Conference Manager role offers the opportunity to lead the delivery of high-profile international scientific events for Nature Conferences, working at the intersection of research, publishing, and global engagement. You will collaborate closely with Nature editors, institutional partners, sponsors, and internal teams to design and execute conferences that convene leading researchers and shape scientific dialogue.
This role is ideal for a highly organized project leader who enjoys working across disciplines, managing complex stakeholder environments, and delivering visible outcomes on a global stage.
This is a temporary role for up to nine (9) months.
Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end planning and delivery of 6-8 live and/or virtual conferences annually
Coordinate closely with editors, partners, and internal teams to define goals, program needs, and deliverables
Manage conference websites, timelines, logistics, and communications with speakers, vendors, and attendees
Oversee budgets, revenue tracking, and expense management for assigned events
Manage contracts, vendors, venues, and operational planning (including on-site delivery as required)
Work with Marketing and Sales teams to support promotion and sponsorship delivery
Monitor milestones and ensure events are delivered on time, on budget, and to expected quality standards
Produce post-event reports, surveys, and debriefs to support continuous improvement
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Essential
Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
Significant experience managing complex events or multi-stakeholder projects
Strong project management and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for an international audience
Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Experience working directly with clients or senior stakeholders
High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Desirable
Experience delivering academic, scientific, or international conferences
Familiarity with budgeting, contracts, and vendor management
Experience with project management tools (e.g., Workfront, Asana, Notion)
Professional accreditation in project or event management (e.g., CMP, PMP)
US Annualized Base Salary Range: $66,300 - $80,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level, and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
