Quantum Benchmarking Intern
Overview
How do you define quantum advantage? The Quantum Economic Development Consortium (QED-C®) is an international association managed by SRI with a mission to grow the quantum economy via community-building and collaboration. QED-C seeks an intern to assist in enhancing and implementing new application-oriented benchmark programs and techniques in a public open-source project. Several leading quantum computing companies are involved in the effort; the intern will interact with and learn from technical experts in the quantum industry. The intern will work a hybrid schedule if local to SRI’s Arlington, VA office or work fully remotely if not local to the Arlington office.
Responsibilities
The intern will develop and implement algorithms to run on quantum computing simulators and on multiple quantum computing hardware systems. The intern will draft technical documentation, contribute to technical manuscripts, and regularly present their progress to the Standards & Performance Metrics Technical Advisory Committee.
Qualifications
Current undergraduate or graduate students with a demonstrable interest in quantum technology
Coursework or developer certification in quantum algorithms
Expertise in at least one (preferably more) quantum programming environments such as Qiskit, Cirq, Braket, PennyLane, or Q#
Experience implementing quantum algorithms on NISQ computers
Proficient with Python and GitHub
Experience with Jupyter Notebook, plotting libraries, cloud-based or containerized deployment of applications, and graphical user interfaces
Strong written and verbal technical writing and presentation skills
Desired skills:
Working knowledge of common quantum computing benchmarking methodologies
Familiarity with existing quantum computing software repositories, e.g., on GitHub and particularly https://github.com/SRI-International/QC-App-Oriented-Benchmarks
Demonstrated contributions to or leadership on a collaborative, open-source project
The salary range is: $20-$38/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
