Intern, Applied Physics



Overview






SRI’s Advanced Technology & Systems Division is known for work in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. We’re at the leading edge of human-machine interaction, sensing, and other applied technologies that are turning data into usable knowledge. SRI also leads the government-supported Quantum Economic Development Consortium, an initiative designed to grow and advance the quickly evolving quantum industry.

 

ATSD's Applied Physics group is searching for summer interns to work at the Boulder, CO campus. Students will work on a range of projects, which may include contributing to laser and optics alignment, photonic integrated circuit control and measurement, fiber splicing, vacuum systems, RF systems, data acquisition, or digital control of hardware components/systems. 









Responsibilities






  • Working closely with SRI scientists, providing hands-on exposure to state-of-the-art techniques in applied physics and engineering.
  • Support projects ranging from tabletop-based experiments for precision measurement to photonic integrated circuit design, control, and measurement.
  • Students will complete a project presentation at the end of their internship








Qualifications






  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Physics, Engineering, or a related field
  • Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen

Desired qualifications:

  • Coursework in Modern Physics, Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Some experience with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, function generators, optics, lasers, electronics, soldering, 3D printing), and/or coding (Python, Matlab, C, C++, CAD modeling, FDTD simulations).

The salary range is: $20-27/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
