Lifeguard-Temporary
Job Summary
Open and secure the Bear Recreation and Athletic Center & Osgood Natatorium facility and assist with the equipment operation. Ensure the safety of patrons with preventative lifeguarding and responding to emergencies. Assist with in-service trainings, scheduling, and timecard management. Work with Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities, Equipment, & Events, Head Lifeguard, and other lifeguards on issues of safety and work with them to build and maintain positive working relationships. Report any violations of the lifeguard handbook to the Assistant Athletic Director. Support college policies and regulations of state and federal laws.
This role is temporary and available to qualified High School students only, must be available for varied shifts.
Key Responsibilities
Lifeguard: Maintain the safety of the patrons in and around the pool
Represent Grinnell College by maintaining a professional attitude
Communicate and enforce all regulations and pool rules in a personable and professional manner
Communicate any potentially dangerous elements of the facility to the Head Lifeguard and Assistant Athletic Director
Attend all scheduled staff meetings
Participate in and help facilitate staff training
Perform patron surveillance
Remain alert and use all senses while guarding
Work as a team with other lifeguards during special events
Record daily participation numbers
Test the water, record results and report imbalances to the Head Lifeguard and Assistant Athletic Director
Set up the pool for various activities such as laps, classes, etc.
Be able to respond to an emergency and contact/activate EMS
Handle all incidents in a manner appropriate to your training
Complete all incident reports
