confused college student Posted on 07-08-2009

I am a 21 year old undergraduate student who's had a few really hard bumps in life, but I find myself questioning my path in life more now then ever, on one hand I would like to enter law school becoming a successful professional, on another hand I am interested in Journalism, and then i'm interested in the business aspects of music. I can't see a possible career choice that could include all three of these, and by choosing law I feel i'm just going with the safe choice. But is 21 too late to change course on my path in life? Should I follow the safe road or the one I feel i'd enjoy more? Please feel free to weigh in.

21 is not too late.  Have you considered doing law as your major and journalism as a minor.  You can always become a legal corispondent or columnist.  I remember I was tempted to get into the music industry when I first started my career.  The music industry is unlike any other.  Your law degree is universal and can be used in either journalism or the music industry.  You could become an attorney to the stars helping them keep their business dealings legal.  I am sure you will figure your way.  Just think about what you really enjoy and what you would like to do for the next five or so years.  I'm positive things will work out for you.

Thank you for your response, yes I will probably just continue on with my plans to enter law school, it's just law school is so expensive I want to be positive that's where I want to be before I waste time and money on the wrong path. I would like to know what career did you decide besides the music business?

I am an accountant and I had a few friends and a relative who were in the music industry.  They asked me if I would handle their finances and business dealings.  They were already known at the time and quickly growing in the business and I was still in school, had small kids and  just wasn't ready because it would have been a huge undertaking at the time.  I chose to settle with a smaller accounting firm and go from there.  I am still in accounting just went about it another way.  I don't know much about law but I do know that there are a lot of resources for you and the opportunities are limitless for you.  There are several support groups for women of color in law (something I haven't found in accounting) maybe you should join them you might get a better idea of what's out there for you.  Either way I am sure whatever you do will pay off and work out for you. 0

To late no way. Im 40 and I changed my career path.  I went into Criminal Justice and will be graduating this year. I remember hearing that one has found what they love if they would do it for FREE. Which one of these careers would you do for no pay? I would protect children for FREE so, im going into the  CPS field.0  Child Protective Services.

dont forget to pray and ask god to order your steps.0
