Boom in women-owned businesses The number of women-owned businesses in the United States grew by 20 per cent between 1997 and 2002, twice the national average for all businesses, according to figures from the U.S. Census Bureau. A new study has found that women executives in the U.S. working in women-led firms earn between 15 and 20 per cent more in total compensation than women working in other firms.
