Even though some people may think of soul food as something unhealthy and "uncool" today, our food heritage is rich in tradition and healthy foods like grains, vegetables and lean meats. From iron rich collards to beta-carotene loaded sweet potatoes and roasted meats and fish, okra, cassava, beans and fruits - our diet has always been full of options. We must also remember that an "occassional indulgence" into our culinary pasts can also serve to enrich our lives and bring back wonderful memories.
Why should we forget our food heritage when others are running to embrace it and take it from us? The name has been changed from "soul food'' to "comfort food'' and recently ''southern food", "southern cuisine" and even "new southern cuisine". What you will find upon examination is that the majority of the dishes come straight from our Sweet Mother's Kitchen!
We will feature and welcome traditional soul food recipes, updated and healthier dishes and soul fusion dishes - everything soul! We'll discover who some of our own famous black "Top Chefs" are - past and present! We'll even take some culinary trips by recipe to West Africa and other parts of the African diaspora for some dishes I think you'll love! Together we'll discover where it all began! We'll answer questions and tackle your recipe problems. Cooking is my passion and I love sharing it! Let's get back in the kitchen, it's one of my favorite places to be! 12 New Posts |
