Celebrate National Child Passenger Safety Week 2008
Help us make sure your entire family is riding as safe as can be!
Tip of the Day #1 (Monday)
For the best possible protection keep infants in the back seat, in rear-facing child safety seats, as long as possible up to the height or weight limit of the particular seat. NJ LAW: At a minimum, keep infants rear-facing until at least age 1 and at least 20 pounds.
Tip of the Day #2 (Tuesday)
When children outgrow their rear-facing seats (at least age 1 and at least 20 pounds) they should ride in forward-facing child safety seats, in the back seat, until they reach the upper weight or height limit of the particular seat (usually around age 4 and 40 pounds).
Tip of the Day #3 (Wednesday)
Once children outgrow their forward-facing seats (usually around age 4 and 40 pounds), they should ride in booster seats, in the back seat, until the vehicle seat belts fit properly. Seat belts fit properly when the lap belt lays across the upper thighs, the shoulder belt fits across the chest, and the child can bend his/her legs over the edge of the seat. NJ Law: A child must remain in a child restraint or booster seat until at least age 8 or 80 pounds.
Tip of the Day #4 (Thursday)
When children outgrow their booster seats (and are at least age 8 or 80 pounds), they can use the adult seat belts in the back seat, if they fit properly (lap belt lays across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt fits across the chest). All children under the age of 13 should ride in the back seat.
Tip of the Day #5 (Friday)
As adults, we serve as role models for our children and our grandchildren. When parents buckle up, so do their children. Studies show that seat belts do save lives and reduce injuries during crashes. So buckle your seat belt every time, every trip! Help make sure that you and your entire family are travelling as safe as can be!
