ABOUT THE SHOW:
Resident choreographers JCSU Professors Wanda Ebright and Jaclynn O’Toole, as well as guest artists Tara S. Myers of Emory University, Rachel S. Hunter from Florida State University, and local Charlotte choreographer Arlynn Zachary will show their original works of dance. Prof. Cynthia Cole’s photography will be shown during one of the pieces, and student Marissa Duff will be showing her work with the JCSU Community Dance Program, which she coordinates through the Arts Factory.

S'il Vous Plait is a neoclassical ballet by Prof. Wanda Ebright. The ballet features soloist Njeri Rutherford, a senior double-majoring in Communication Arts and Dance, and a large ensemble of fellow dance students, community dancers, and members of Ebright's company, The Wanda Project. Set to music by Felix Mendelssohn, the ballet is cheerful and light-hearted.

Plague of Peace by Prof. Jaclyn O'Toole, is a blend of modern and contemporary dance fusions. Prof. O'Toole was inspired to create art about the on-going AIDS crisis, and specifically, the lack of help from the U.S. Government during the early to mid-1980's outbreak. This dance is intended to share a message of peace and forgiveness to those who close their eyes to the needs of others. Plague of Peace blends a mix of 80's music and original poetry written by Prof. Jaclyn O'Toole, and read by senior Surya Swilley. Through the research and artistry of this work, Ms. O'Toole has become an advocate and developed a true passion for AIDS awareness.

ABOUT JCSU’S COMMUNITY DANCE PROGRAM:

The JCSU Community Dance Program is a public outreach designed to bring more dance opportunities to youth in the Northwest corridor of Charlotte. Girls and boys ranging from ages 3-18 engage in styles such as ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical/contemporary and hip hop. They also participate in various parades, competitions, recitals and more. It is currently under the direction of Marissa Duff, a JCSU senior and dance major. For more information, please visit our website at https://sites.google.com/site/jcsucomunity...
