Government and Education advisors are changing an existing 50 year old rule that gave priority to teaching religion in Ireland's schools. The new ruling called the EBRE proposals will limit the amount of time given to teach religion in the classroom. The rule will implement changes as to the priority of teaching religion over other subjects which had half the teaching hours. Presently, the classroom teaches at least 30 minutes of religious education topics which twice the time given to physical education and science classes. Many of Ireland's school are conducted under the Catholic Church and has some religious groups stunned with the new ruling as difficult to accept. Topic time to teach religious may be modified with less classroom coverage the 50 year rule will be abolished.
