Eddie Murphy on reggae, career flops and Michael Jackson (3571 hits)

It was 30 years ago that Eddie Murphy had his first hit. Not a movie — his first hit song.

Back in 1985, the synth-soul smash “Party All the Time” soared to No. 2 on the Billboard chart and launched what initially promised to be a successful side career.

But due to the critical panning of albums such as 1989’s “So Happy” and 1993’s “Love’s Alright,” as well as long periods of inactivity, the comedian’s musical efforts have taken a back seat.

But just because the 53-year-old hasn’t released much in the way of music doesn’t mean he hasn’t been recording plenty. “I’ve got all kinds of songs that no one has heard,” he tells The Post.

One you can hear is the new single “Oh Jah Jah,” which recently hit No. 1 on the iTunes reggae chart. Although Murphy’s noncommittal about future releases, it’s clear he still has plenty of music in him.
