Blacks are up to 2.5 times more likely to suffer a limb amputation and up to 5.6 times more likely to suffer kidney disease than other people with diabetes. Have you ever considered why diabetes, in black adults, is more prevalent than among other groups of people? Why are rates of obesity so sky high among black people and why does our tendency to carry so much extra weight in our upper body increase our risks for Type 2 Diabetes? What are some of the other strong characteristics that people that have Diabetes have in common? And finally, what can black people do to reduce their risk of diabetes?
