Good Is the Enemy Of Right (2055 hits)

I once heard someone say that good is the enemy of right. There is nothing wrong with doing something good in and of itself. Actually we don’t hear of people in society doing something good as often as we would like or should. Sometimes the good gets overshadowed by the bad and negative. We can think of quiet a few good things such as good people, good deeds, good food, good timing.

Everything that is good for you may not be the right thing for you. Even though it’s good it may not be the right thing to do or have at a particular moment. According to where we each are in our own personal lives will determine what is just good for us and what is right for us. Having a good thing at the wrong time can cause us a lot of stress and even a waste of time in the long run. We come in contact with a lot of good people and hopefully there will never be a shortage of good people. However when we are talking about who we are making connections with we need to make sure that we connect with the right people. Two good people can get into a relationship and still the relationship not work out because they were just not right for each other.

People in business come across many people on a daily basis however they are not making connections with everyone that they meet. They have to think of what connections are right for their company and business. When a high level executive is trying to take his organization in another direction or to a higher level, he does not just contact good people he make contact and connects with the right people. He wants people that are experienced and qualified to handle to task of moving his organization forward. Let’s say you go to the hospital unexpectedly and have to have emergency surgery on your heart you wouldn’t say let the nurse that took my vital signs perform the surgery because she is a good person would you, of course not. You would want the best heart surgeon to come in and perform the task, why because he/she is the right person for the job. Good keeps us in the company of a lot of well-meaning people; right keeps us in the presence of purposeful people and connections

So we have to connect with the right people at the right time in our lives. Within your group of friends you probably have a person that you can go to for a certain situation or problem that may arise, it’s not that all of your other friends are bad people it’s just that this particular friend is the right person to handle the situation or problem that you are facing at the moment.

In the process of life we have to be mindful that we are doing the right thing and not just doing something because it is a good thing. Doing good things can be a waste of your time, energy and finances. There were many times in my life that I found myself doing good things but they were not the right thing to do or what I should have been doing at that moment.

One way that you can tell that you are doing the right thing where your life is concerned is to be clear about the purpose and the vision for your life. Good keeps us busy, right keeps us productive. Say you have mapped out a plan for yourself to obtain a certain goal, now what if every day you got up and did a lot of good tasks that had nothing to do with you reaching your goal, what would happen? You would become like a madman trying to figure out what is that you are doing wrong. You may even say to yourself I am doing all of these good things and nothing concerning my goals are coming out of it. The answer is simple; good does not make it right; you are not doing the right things that pertain to you reaching your goals.

Good Versus Right

3 Things

1. Doing a good thing does not mean that it is the right thing for you to be doing at a particular time. Don’t allow good thing to distract you from fulfilling your dreams.

2. One way that you can tell that you are doing the right thing where your life is concerned is to be clear about the purpose and the vision for your life if what you’re doing does not line up with your purpose and vision it is not the right thing for you to be doing.

3. Doing a lot of good things versus doing the right thing can be a waste of your time, energy and finances.
