LOCKED OUT TOGETHER
THE WORKERS OF KELLOGG
WERE STALLED IN LABOR TALKS
WANTED TO KEEP A SALARY
October 22, 2013
Memphis, TN

The Kellogg Cereal plant locked out 220 workers on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 after labor talks broke down the greater ability to hire casual employees to operate the production lines. The over 50 years plant said the move to change is to improve efficiency and a more flexibility in staffing. The employee's union that the proposal rebuffed the talks on a master agreement that covers Kellogg plants nationwide. The lockout began the same day the union filed an unfair labor practice against the company refusal to bargain in good faith in September 07, 2013. Workers held up signs stating "KELLOG'S LOCKED US OUT!" The Kellogg at Memphis maintains that changes in production staffing are necessary to make the plant competitive.

LEMOYNE- OWEN OPENS NEW RESIDENCE HALL
THE PROJECT HAS HAD IT STRUGGLING CALL
October 18, 2013
Memphis, TN

An excited crowd of students at Lemoyne Owen College were elated to finally see the four-story brick building at 869 Saxon visible and open. The largest construction of the school took over 40 years in the making was finally ready. School president Johnnie B. Watson enrolled 1,000 students for fall which is up from 500 in 2006. The large historical building comes from a struggle but shows the continued effort of the Black colleges will to survive! The opening ceremony had speaker U.S. Rep Steve Cohen stating that the l13. million loan through the U.S. Department of Educations Historically Black College and University Capital Financing Program, demonstrated the good federal government can do. The new dorm houses 200 residents, and that raised the status to 250 students to live on campus. The new dorm is coed. Some perks of the building include a state of the art computer center, laundry facilities, recreational areas and 24 hour security. The ribbon cutting President Watson stated it was faith that brought the transformation of Lemoyne-Owen to continue and he said " A lot of prayers went up for Lemoyne-Owen, when prayers go up blessings come down." Robert Lipscomb an alumnus and Board of Trustees thanked the attendees of the ceremony. Students and faculty were all together raised in jubilee!

That's getting it together! Black Colleges thrive even through a struggle.
I packed, but the dorm rooms are all taken! Ain't that some STUFF!

3 TOGETHER DIDN'T LAST
October 22, 2013
Memphis, TN

The crash of a helicopter left three together in a tragic accident. Two women and the male pilot plunged to their death in Fayette County Tennessee on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. The medical helicopter part of W.I.N.G.S plummeted into a thickly wooded area about a mile south of Fayette Academy on U.S. 64 in Somerville, TN. On board was the pilot, a nurse and respiratory therapist. This was the second time in as few as four years a medical helicopter crashed in West Tennessee. The cause of crash is still unknown and federal investigations are scanning every possible detail to find cause. The team were on their way to transport a child to the LeBonheur's Childrens Hospital were the nurse and respiratory therapist were employed. All members of the crash were family oriented with spouses and children. The news of the crash spread sadness locally and far away.
